THE ELEPHANT GREY PORTLAND QUEEN ANNE CHAIR
British Prime Minister 1783-1783
Our Portland Queen Anne, wing back style is a elegent piece designed with just about any environment in mind. From a home to an office, it’s the quintessential British Queen Anne piece.
It takes its name from the 3rd Duke of Portland, William Cavendish-Bentinck. The Duke succeeded The Earl of Shelburne in 1783 but he was only in office for a mere 10 months. Despite his swift tenureship, his did oversee the signing of the Treaty of Paris, formally ending the American Revolutioary War. Interestingly, Portland parish in Jamaica was named after the 3rd Duke of Portland. The Titchfield School, founded in 1786, also in the parish is also named in his honor. The school’s crest is derived from the Earl of Portland’s personal crest.
The most notable namesake, however, is our amazing Portland Wing Back Chair. This particular chair was made in our Manner 3 crafting style (scroll down to our crafting menu for more information about our crafting options) is hand dyed in stunning elephant grey. Design wise, this Portland is made from a solid beechwood frame and has a fully coil spring seat. We have crafted this item using a straight leg and square base, rather than the turned leg on this Portland, to give a more upright, vintage appearance.
