THE GRENVILLE SOFA, RICH BROWN

British Prime Minister 1763-1765

Our Grenville sofa is a stunning example of sophisticated craftsmanship at its best. A true, timeless piece of furniture.

It takes its name from George Grenville, PM of Britain for a paltry two years in the late 18th century. Grenville’s first act was to prosecute John Wilkes for publishing in The North Briton newspaper, an article deriding King George III’s speech made on 23 April 1763. Wilkes was prosecuted for “seditious livel” and, after a duel with a Grenville supporter Samuel Martin, fled to France. Wilkes was later elected and re-elected by the Middlesex constituency. He was continually refused admission to parliament by parliament, and proved a problem to several successive governments.

This particular Grenville sofa is a true gentleman’s classic. The rich Brown Sofa was hand dyed and really does blend well with this sophisticated design. The thin arms are a real eye pleased whilst the deep seat really does everything it should when you’re looking for a seat to relax in. The duck feather and down cushions are soothing and soft, and the back is just the right height to spread your arms across with the TV remote in hand. Internally, the piece is fully coil sprung while the whole structure is built to last with a solid beechwood frame.

Fancy something a little different or not looking for a brown sofa? This piece can be finished however you would like!
