British Prime Minister 1859-1865
The Palmerston is a very beautiful and stylish Chesterfield design with a stunning splayed arm.
The design lends its name from Henry John Temple, 3rd Viscount Palmerston. Popularly nicknamed “Pam,” or “The Mongoose”, he was in government office almost continuously from 1807 until his death in 1865, beginning his parliamentary career as a Tory and concluding it as a Liberal. He is best remembered for his direction of British foreign policy through a period when Britain was at the height of its power, serving terms as both Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister. Some of his aggressive actions, now sometimes termed liberal interventionist, were greatly controversial at the time, and remain so today. He was the most recent British Prime Minister to die in office…
Palmerston’s Chesterfield is grand, demanding and characterising… it’s more than just a sofa. The Palmerston it a piece of art, a ‘different’ style of Chesterfield. This particular piece was crafted as a pair for an America client based in North Carolina. With a clear eye for superb quality and craftsmanship, this client fell in love with our Palmerston and in particular, those adoring splayed arms. Crafted in our Manner 3 crafting style (scroll down for more information on our crafting Manners), this piece has a full 8-point hand tied loose coil sprung seat. Two chunky 5″ thick foam cushions give the sofa incredible structure and shape whilst the walnut turned legs add eye inspiring attention to detail.
We could easily finish this piece with a flat or buttoned seat, and on a set of casters for an alternative finish, but however you want you Palmerston, it’s sure to make the perfect statement – just like this pair achieved.
